Shocking Kolkata Doctor Rape and Murder: Heartbreaking Twist as Former R.G. Kar Hospital Principal Reappears Before CBI
Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, presented himself at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) office on Saturday, August 17, 2014, for the second consecutive day regarding the investigation into the rape and murder of a doctor. Ghosh’s initial questioning began on Friday, August 16, 2014, and extended until 3 a.m. on Saturday. According to a CBI officer, Ghosh was kept in a room at the agency’s CGO Complex city office until 9:30 p.m. before the interrogation began.
He returned to the CBI office on Saturday morning at around 10:30 a.m. for further questioning. During his first round of interrogation, Ghosh was questioned about his initial response upon learning of the doctor’s death, his instructions for contacting the family, and the process of informing the police. The officer mentioned that some of Ghosh’s answers were convoluted, prompting an extended grilling session that lasted until early Saturday.
Ghosh was summoned again on Saturday morning, where questions arose regarding the hospital’s weekly roster, which reportedly placed the victim on shifts lasting 36 to 48 hours. Following the discovery of the doctor’s body in the seminar room of R.G. Kar Hospital on August 9, Ghosh resigned from his post, citing fears of potential attacks, and instructed his lawyer to seek protection from the Calcutta High Court. The High Court directed him to approach a single bench for security measures. Police have already arrested a civic volunteer in connection with the case, following the grim discovery.
Dr. Sandip Ghosh’s repeated questioning underscores the severity of the investigation as authorities work to unravel the details behind the tragic incident, aiming to ensure justice for the bereaved family.
