Heartbreaking Contractor Fraud Sabotages Essential Jal Jeevan Water Project in Gohpur, Assam
The ambitious water supply initiative aimed at enhancing water access in Gohpur’s 1 No. Nahoroni area has been marred by corruption and mismanagement. Spearheaded by the Prime Minister with a substantial investment of approximately 94 lakh rupees, the project has been left incomplete and substandard by the contractor, TY Traders. The Arunachal Pradesh-based construction firm has abandoned the project, along with eight other similar schemes in the region, failing to meet the scheduled completion this month.
The site of the unfinished project is now surrounded by overgrown vegetation and filled with waste due to improper disposal practices. Residents of the area, who were promised reliable access to clean drinking water, are currently without this essential service and are voicing their frustrations and demands for government intervention.
The community is appealing to the government and relevant authorities to take immediate action to complete the water supply infrastructure. They seek accountability and completion of the project to ensure the essential service of clean drinking water is provided as promised.
The situation highlights the broader issues of corruption and lack of oversight in public infrastructure projects, and the urgent need for accountability to ensure that taxpayer money is effectively utilized to benefit the community.
