Exciting Restart: All You Need to Know About Delhi IGI Airport’s New Terminal 1 Resuming Operations Today
Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport is set to open its newly renovated Terminal 1 on Saturday, with flight operations from IndiGo and SpiceJet shifting to the upgraded facility. The airport operator, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), announced the move, following a temporary suspension of operations at Terminal 1 due to a canopy collapse in June.
DIAL described the revamped terminal as featuring state-of-the-art amenities designed to enhance passenger convenience. A post on X highlighted the new experience passengers can expect, promising a “Future Ready” travel experience.
The development of the new terminal was part of DIAL’s Phase 3A expansion project. According to DIAL’s official release, SpiceJet will move 13 flights to the new Terminal 1 starting August 17, with IndiGo following on September 2, relocating 34 flights from Terminals 2 and 3.
Passengers flying with SpiceJet will access the terminal through Entry Gate A on the ground floor, while those flying with IndiGo will use Entry Gates 5 and 6 on the first floor. All arrivals will take place through dedicated areas on the ground floor.
To assist passengers, strategic signage has been installed, including on-road markings, directing them to the departures area. RAXA guards will be present to aid and direct passengers efficiently. DIAL has also introduced a Mobile Check-in Service to minimize queues at check-in counters.
With these upgrades, Delhi Airport aims to provide a more streamlined and convenient travel experience for passengers, while also advancing its goal to increase international traffic capacity by 40-50%.
