Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio Unveils Comprehensive Life Insurance Scheme on Independence Day
Kohima, August 15 (MExN): As part of the 78th Independence Day celebrations, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio launched the Chief Minister’s Universal Life Insurance Scheme (CMLIS) at Civil Secretariat Plaza, Kohima. The initiative extends life and accidental insurance coverage to families across Nagaland, affirming the state government’s commitment to resident welfare.
The CMLIS offers Rs. 2 lakh in life insurance for the primary breadwinner’s death and Rs. 2 lakh each for the breadwinner and up to three family members in cases of accidental death or disability. This scheme is open to all indigenous inhabitants and permanent residents, including state government employees, work-charged and casual workers, and accredited journalists. The age limit extends to 60 years for government servants, while for other residents it is capped at 50 years.
Enrolment began on August 15, 2024, and will run for a month, with eligible families required to verify their details on the CMLIS portal by September 5, 2024. Households not covered under the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS) should register via the Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM) in rural areas or through local administrative offices in urban areas by September 15, 2024.
The scheme offers a streamlined verification and update process on the CMLIS portal, where families can use their CMHIS-registered mobile numbers for self-verification, designate breadwinners, and update nominees for insurance claims. Rural registrations are managed through NSRLM representatives, removing the need for physical forms, while urban applicants must submit signed forms through local administrative offices before applying online.
Government servants are automatically enrolled as heads of their families for the insurance policy. If there are multiple government employees in a family, all can be designated as breadwinners, with the life insurance coverage provided up to age 60.
The CMLIS ensures a seamless, fee-free claims process, making financial security accessible without additional costs. For assistance, beneficiaries can contact the designated helpline, NSRLM representatives, or local administrative officers.
