Remarkable Progress: Dhubri’s Triumph as 122 Villages in Assam Achieve ‘Har Ghar Jal’ Status!
A review meeting on Jal Shakti Abhiyan activities took place on Friday at Dhubri’s DC office conference hall. Presided over by District Commissioner Dibakar Nath, the meeting saw participation from Mukesh Bahadur Singh, Director of MoHUA, and Dr. Keisham Radhapyari, Scientist, NER Assam. Key administrative officers and heads of departments (HODs) involved in the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) scheme were also in attendance.
The HODs delivered PowerPoint presentations on their departmental achievements. Notably, the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department reported a 75.05% accomplishment in providing Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs), equating to 2,35,248 connections. Additional achievements include 58.94% tap water connections in schools, 74.64% in Anganwadi Centers (AWCs), and 80.34% in tea garden areas.
Community engagement has seen the formation of 960 water user groups for each Piped Water Supply Scheme (PWSS). ‘Har Ghar Jal’ status has been achieved in 122 out of 783 villages, with certification pending for 25 more. Progress on recharge soak pits includes 171 out of a target of 304, while tree plantation efforts have reached 1895 out of 2880 targeted trees.
Challenges persist in Char areas, where 48,000 households remain excluded due to the non-feasibility of the piped water supply scheme. The flood season further hinders progress in these low-lying areas. Despite these obstacles, regular reviews by the District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM) address inter-departmental progress issues and public grievances.
The Soil Conservation Department focuses on water harvesting, farm ponds, distribution brick canals, plantations, and earthen bunds. Under the WDC PMKSY-2.0 initiative, significant efforts have been made in brick canal and farm pond renovation, along with plantation work.
Community engagement in Natural Resource Management (NRM) is bolstered through Micro Watershed Communities formed via Gram Sabha. The PNRD department has completed multiple initiatives, including 83 Amrit Sarovar works and 41 community soak pits.
The Fishery Department, under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada, is equally proactive with new pond and rearing tank constructions, rejuvenation of 14 beels, and geo-tagging of water bodies. The Agriculture Department is implementing Solar STW and RIDF schemes, along with sustainable irrigation solutions under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY-PDMC).
Overall, the comprehensive review showcased the rigorous efforts across multiple departments in advancing the Jal Shakti Abhiyan in Dhubri.
