Game-Changing Huawei AI Chip Set to Challenge Nvidia in China: Exclusive Report
Huawei to Launch AI Chip Seeking to Rival Nvidia Amid US Sanctions
Huawei Technologies is on the brink of releasing a new artificial intelligence (AI) chip aimed at competing with Nvidia in China despite ongoing US sanctions, the Wall Street Journal reported. The upcoming chip, dubbed Ascend 910C, has been under evaluation by Chinese internet and telecom giants over recent weeks. According to the report, Huawei has assured potential clients that the chip’s performance rivals Nvidia’s H100.
Following US-imposed restrictions that prevent Nvidia from selling advanced chips like the H100 to China due to national security issues, Nvidia rolled out three alternative chips, most notably the H20, albeit with reduced computing power in accordance with the sanctions.
Huawei plans to begin shipping the Ascend 910C as early as October. Companies including ByteDance, Baidu, and China Mobile are expressing interest in the new chip. Early discussions suggest that orders could exceed 70,000 units, potentially reaching a total value of $2 billion.
Huawei did not respond immediately to requests for comments from Reuters. The escalating demand among notable Chinese companies underscores the significant market potential for Huawei’s new chip amid the backdrop of restrictive US trade policies.
