YouTube Introduces Sleep Timer Feature for Premium Users
Last Updated: Aug 12, 2024 | 4:27 PM IST
Google-owned YouTube has launched a sleep timer feature on its mobile and desktop apps, designed to pause video playback after a user-specified duration. Currently in testing and exclusive to YouTube Premium subscribers, the feature has not yet been extended to TV platforms.
The sleep timer allows users to set a time limit (ranging from 10 to 60 minutes) after which the video playback will automatically pause. An additional option lets users stop playback at the end of the current video. This can be accessed via the “Try experimental new features” section in the Settings menu. If playback is paused, a pop-up allows users to extend the timer; if not extended, playback will remain paused.
On Android devices, this feature is located under Additional Settings while viewing a video. The sleep timer, which can impact recommendations and watch history, as well as save battery life, is available to Premium subscribers until September 2, with broader implementation anticipated in the coming months.
The feature, akin to sleep timers available on Spotify and experimented with by TikTok, was initially spotted during testing phases in June.
