Alleged Gang-Rape in Ludhiana: Four Arrested for Retaliatory Assault

In a distressing incident from Ludhiana, a married woman was allegedly gang-raped by a man and his three family members as an act of vengeance. The police reported on Sunday (August 11, 2024) that the accused sought to avenge the humiliation they felt after the man’s daughter eloped with the victim’s brother.
The perpetrators, originally from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, reportedly recorded the heinous act on their mobile phones. Although the assault occurred on May 1, the victim, deeply traumatized, delayed reporting the crime. It was only after she had sufficiently recovered from the psychological impact that she gathered the courage to approach the police, as stated by law enforcement officials.
A formal complaint has been registered at Tibba Road Police Station against the four accused: Ravinder Singh, his brother Varinder Singh, son Aman Singh, and an associate named Santosh Singh.
According to the victim’s complaint, her brother had eloped with the daughter of the main accused, Ravinder Singh, in April 2024. In a bid to locate the couple, the four men went to the victim’s house on May 1. Unable to find them, the accused intimidated the woman and allegedly gang-raped her to exact their revenge. They also threatened her, saying they would upload a video of the assault on social media if she reported the crime.
The survivor, who is the mother of two children, took time to regain her strength and stability before lodging the complaint. This case brings to light the severe trauma and intimidation tactics that often prevent victims from seeking immediate justice.
The police are investigating the matter further and have assured swift action against the accused.
