HYDRA Triumphantly Begins Demolishing Encroachments to Revitalize Bam Rukn Ud-Dowla Lake
Historic Nizam-Era Reservoir Faces Extinction Due to Encroachment; HYDRA Takes Action
Bam Rukn Ud-Dowlah, a historic reservoir from the Nizam era in Rajendranagar mandal, Hyderabad, is on the brink of extinction due to rampant encroachment. Following directives from Commissioner A.V. Ranganath, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection (HYDRA) Agency has commenced the demolition of illegal structures within the Full Tank Level (FTL) area of the lake.
Sources indicate that the demolition operations began on Saturday, August 10, 2024. Tension escalated in Kings Colony and Shastripuram as reports surfaced of some VIP residences being razed. The encroachment and subsequent filling of this heritage reservoir have been tacitly allowed by civic and revenue authorities, despite ongoing objections from Irrigation officials and concerned citizens. These actions were justified under a High Court judgement that simply required officials to adhere to due procedure.
