Meghalaya BSF Hosts Crucial Coordination Meets in Border Villages, Strengthening Unity and Security
BSF Convenes Village Meetings Amid Unrest in Neighboring Bangladesh
The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya frontier has recently organized village coordination meetings with headmen and residents of various border villages within its Area of Responsibility (AOR). These gatherings come in response to escalating violence and political instability in neighboring Bangladesh.
During the meetings, BSF officials informed border villagers about the current unrest in Bangladesh. They emphasized the importance of community cooperation for effective border management and vigilance. Villagers were urged to support the BSF’s efforts in maintaining security and preventing unauthorized cross-border movements.
Earlier, on August 8, the Meghalaya government temporarily halted business operations at the border haats along the international border with Bangladesh due to the volatile situation. According to officials, intelligence shared by the BSF and state police suggested a significant risk of cross-border activities involving Bangladeshi nationals, outlawed militant groups, and smugglers if border haats were reopened.
There are currently two border haats affected by this suspension: one in Balat, East Khasi Hills district, and another in Kalaichar, South West Garo Hills district.
The BSF’s initiative to engage with border communities highlights the ongoing efforts to manage and ensure the security of the region amidst regional instability.
