Historic & Unforgettable: MLB’s Epic First Game at NASCAR Track Aims to Shatter Attendance Records
Baseball Meets NASCAR: Braves and Reds to Play at Bristol Motor Speedway
In an unprecedented move, Major League Baseball (MLB) announced that the legendary Bristol Motor Speedway will host its first regular-season game on August 2, 2025. The game, featuring the Atlanta Braves and the Cincinnati Reds, will be a historic event as it marks the first MLB game played in Tennessee during the season.
Bristol Motor Speedway, known for its massive seating capacity nearing 150,000, is set to break the attendance record for an MLB game. The current record stands at 115,300, set during an exhibition game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Boston Red Sox at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in 2008.
MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred expressed excitement about the event, highlighting the opportunity to celebrate the sport with fans on a grand scale and to showcase Tennessee’s rich cultural heritage. This announcement aligns with MLB’s broader strategy to expand its reach by hosting games in unique venues and locations, both domestically and internationally.
In recent years, MLB has staged games in unconventional settings, such as a military base in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and the "Field of Dreams" in Iowa. The league has also scheduled international games for the 2025 season in cities like Tokyo, Mexico City, Paris, and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Bristol Motor Speedway has experience hosting major non-NASCAR events, including a record-breaking NCAA football game between Tennessee and Virginia Tech in 2016, which drew 156,990 fans.
Atlanta Braves third baseman Austin Riley welcomed the news, describing it as a "cool and unique" event that promises to be a fun experience.
This initiative underscores MLB’s commitment to innovation and expanding its fan base, ensuring the sport’s popularity continues to grow across diverse settings and audiences.
