Tragic Delhi Coaching Centre Death: Court Urgently Seeks CBI’s Response on Bail Plea of Basement Owners
CBI Probes Coaching Centre Tragedy; Court Seeks Reply on Bail Pleas of Co-owners
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is conducting a probe at an Old Rajinder Nagar coaching centre in New Delhi after three civil services aspirants drowned in its flooded basement. This investigation follows a notice issued by a Delhi court on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, requesting the CBI’s response to the bail applications filed by four co-owners of the basement.
Principal District and Sessions Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna has directed the CBI to file its response by August 9. The bail requests, submitted by Parvinder Singh, Tajinder Singh, Harvinder Singh, and Sarbjit Singh, come after a lower court denied them bail earlier.
However, the court noted that the bail applications couldn’t be addressed immediately as the First Information Report (FIR) copy was not presented. The Public Prosecutor explained that the transfer process from Delhi Police to CBI is incomplete, and the case isn’t registered by the agency yet.
The CBI stepped in after a directive from the Delhi High Court for a thorough investigation. Counsel for the accused asserted that his clients have cooperated fully with the investigation and didn’t attempt to evade it. He also argued that the charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and death by negligence are contradictory.
The next steps await the CBI’s response, adding another layer to the ongoing investigation into this tragic incident.
