Empowering Lives: Essential Aids and Appliances for Persons with Disabilities to Enhance Quality of Life
Shillong, August 8: In a commendable initiative to support Persons with Disabilities (PwD), the Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation, and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, under the administration of SVNIRTAR Cuttack, Odisha, organized an ADIP distribution camp today at U Sosotham Auditorium, State Central Library, Shillong. This event, overseen by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, aimed to meet critical health and practical needs, underscoring a strong commitment to inclusivity and community support.
The camp was graced by Paul Lyngdoh, Minister of Social Welfare Department in Meghalaya, as the Chief Guest, and Pravin Bakshi, Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, as the special guest. The event included the distribution of 125 essential aids and appliances such as Smart Phones, Auxiliary Crutches, Teaching Learning Material (TLM Kits), Rollators, Hearing Aids, CP Chairs, Crutches, Wheelchairs, and Android Tablets. These aids are designed to enhance the quality of life for persons with disabilities, aiming to reduce their daily challenges and improve their living conditions.
Paul Lyngdoh emphasized the significance of the camp, stating, “Our goal today was to create an inclusive environment where every individual, regardless of their abilities, can access critical information and receive practical assistance. We are honored to contribute to the well-being and independence of our community members with disabilities.” He also lauded the dedication and hard work of the CRC-Shillong staff.
Dr. Ram Shakal Sahani, Director of CRC-Shillong, noted that the office has been working to better the lives of Persons with Disabilities in Meghalaya since 19th July 2021. He acknowledged the support from the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Meghalaya, in conducting multiple activities, awareness camps, and distribution programs. Dr. Sahani highlighted that these aids and appliances are crucial in helping persons with disabilities pursue good education.
The success of this event underscores the ongoing commitment of the Office of CRC Shillong to address the unique needs of persons with disabilities through targeted initiatives and compassionate service. This camp serves as a model for future efforts aimed at fostering greater inclusivity and support within the community.
