Tripura Intensifies Border Surveillance Amid Regional Tensions
AGARTALA: Tripura Chief Minister and Home Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha announced on Tuesday that the state government is ramping up surveillance along its international border with Bangladesh. Emphasizing the need to prevent unauthorized crossings, Dr. Saha highlighted Tripura’s commitment to maintaining robust security measures.
At a press briefing, Dr. Saha detailed his ongoing assessments of the situation in Bangladesh and stressed the state government’s collaboration with central authorities. "I am in regular contact with the central government," he noted, adding that discussions have involved the Chief Secretary, Tripura Police, Assam Rifles, Border Security Force, and other security entities. "We are implementing measures in line with directives from the Centre to ensure the border is secure," he stated.
The Chief Minister outlined specific efforts to bolster border security and called for a coordinated approach among different security agencies. "Currently, we are not permitting anyone to cross into Tripura," Dr. Saha confirmed.
Addressing recent attacks on the Hindu minority in Bangladesh, Dr. Saha condemned the violence as unacceptable and extended support to those affected. He praised the efforts of Bangladeshi Muslims who are actively protecting minorities and religious sites. "It is encouraging to see many, including students, stepping forward to safeguard Hindu minorities and temples in Bangladesh. We are closely monitoring these developments," he remarked.
Dr. Saha assured that the central government has requested updates on the situation, though Tripura has not faced any issues so far. His proactive measures underscore the state’s commitment to both border security and humanitarian aid in response to regional instability.
As the situation in Bangladesh evolves, Tripura’s government remains vigilant and ready to implement additional measures if necessary. Dr. Saha’s statements reaffirm the state’s resolve to uphold security and humanitarian principles amidst ongoing regional challenges.
