In a dramatic turn of events, Sheikh Hasina resigned as Bangladesh’s Prime Minister and landed near Delhi in a military aircraft amid escalating unrest. Alongside this significant development, actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut took a swipe at opposition parties questioning the concept of “Hindu Rashtra.” In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Ranaut, the BJP MP from Himachal’s Mandi, asserted, “Hasina feels safe in Bharat,” highlighting India’s historical significance as the “original motherland of all Islamic Republics around us.”
Ranaut emphasized that while the Bangladeshi leader sought refuge in India, opposition parties in India continually challenge the notion of a Hindu state. She remarked, “No one is safe in Muslim countries, not even Muslims,” pointing to the turmoil in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and even Britain. She concluded by noting that Indians are fortunate to live in what she termed “Ram Rajya.”
Hasina’s exit follows massive violent protests in Bangladesh, which saw the military intervene to fill the power vacuum. Diplomatic sources revealed she landed at Hindon airbase near New Delhi, initially planning to proceed to London. However, unresolved issues have introduced uncertainty to her itinerary, suggesting she might remain in India longer than anticipated.
Sheikh Hasina, 76, the daughter of Bangladesh’s founder Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, saw her 15-year tenure come to an abrupt end amidst the chaos that has claimed over 100 lives. The unrest reflects a country in turmoil, even as early signs of normalcy emerge.
