Breaking News: Manipur Triumphs as Police Capture KYKL Insurgents Suspected in Kidnapping and Extortion Crimes
In a major crackdown on August 4, Manipur Police arrested two active members of the banned insurgent group KYKL. The suspects, Maibam Roshan Singh (alias Kishan, 38) and Maibam Naocha Singh (36), were implicated in multiple criminal activities such as kidnapping for ransom and extorting local businesses including stone crushers and mobile shops.
During the operation, authorities confiscated several items linked to the suspects’ extortion operations. These included four mobile handsets, a black wallet, an Aadhaar card, Rs 11,950 in cash, and a four-wheeler vehicle.
In a related development on August 5, security forces apprehended Budha Meitei, also known as Daimal (38), an underground operative of the United Revolutionary Front (URF) from Salungpham bazar in Thoubal district. Meitei was reportedly involved in extorting money from various entities such as brick farms, educational institutions, government employees, and the general public of Thoubal district.
The arrest led to the seizure of a pistol with a magazine and three live rounds, an extortion demand letter, a two-wheeler, two mobile phones, and three SIM cards. These items are now part of an ongoing investigation into his extortion network.
These arrests represent significant strides in Manipur Police’s and security forces’ collaborative efforts to dismantle militant extortion operations, thereby ensuring the safety and security of local communities.
