Assam Rifles Battalions Redeployed from Manipur to Jammu and Kashmir for Counter-Terror Operations
Guwahati: In a strategic redeployment, two battalions of the Assam Rifles (AR) are being shifted from Manipur to Jammu and Kashmir to bolster counter-terrorism efforts in the Union Territory. This movement is part of a regular exercise aimed at optimizing force deployment for effectively neutralizing terrorist activities.
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will take over security duties in the areas previously managed by the AR battalions, which include approximately 1,500 soldiers. Despite this reallocation, the remaining AR units in Manipur will continue their dual mandate of counter-insurgency and border-guarding.
The redeployment of AR personnel, known for their counter-insurgency specialization, is anticipated to significantly enhance anti-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir. This strategic move follows a review meeting led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to evaluate the security situation in the region.
