Urgent Warning: Manipur Police Urge Against Sharing Distressing Videos of Students Amid Protests to Avert Chaos
Manipur Police have issued a strict warning against the dissemination of videos showing panicked students during a protest in Imphal East. The warning followed a rally on August 1 that escalated into violence, compelling police to use tear gas to manage the situation.
In a social media statement, Manipur Police detailed the incident, which occurred in Akampat, Imphal East district. “The crowd became unruly, attacking police vehicles and throwing stones. Consequently, the police had to fire a minimum number of tear gas shells to control the mob,” the statement explained.
Following the chaotic event, videos emerged on social media depicting students in a state of panic within their classrooms. Manipur Police condemned the circulation of these videos, considering them potentially provocative. “Certain individuals recorded videos of students in a distressed state and circulated them on social media, intending to incite panic among the public and students,” the statement noted.
Authorities have raised concerns that such content could further escalate already heightened tensions. The police have urged the public to cease sharing these videos, highlighting the possible legal repercussions. “The public is advised not to engage in such activities that cause panic among the general masses, failing which stringent legal action will be taken,” the statement warned.
This strong advisory underscores the police’s commitment to maintaining peace and preventing the spread of panic in the community.
