Police Officer Detained for Forgery and Illicit Money Collection in Dhubri
Dhubri, July 2: A police officer from the Assam Battalion has been detained for his involvement in forgery and illegal money collection, inciting community outrage. Rakibul Islam Ahmed, posted at Golakganj Police Station, was apprehended for fraudulently collecting money under the guise of enrolling beneficiaries in the Arunodoi scheme.
Ahmed allegedly exploited numerous women in Jhagrarpar, Dhubri, by collecting Rs 1,000 each, falsely claiming strong connections with BJP leaders. He further intimidated the victims by threatening harassment from BJP activists if they refused to comply.
The fraudulent activities came to light when Ahmed’s first wife, under pressure from the victims, revealed his misconduct. The affected women, led by an activist from the All India Democratic Women’s Association, approached the Golakganj police station to demand the return of their money.
During the confrontation, Ahmed reportedly mistreated and assaulted the women. Frustrated by the inaction and determined to recover their money, the victims sought intervention from Dhubri’s district superintendent of police and threatened legal action.
Subsequently, Ahmed was taken into custody at Golakganj police station and later transferred to Dhubri Sadar Police Station on Thursday night for further investigation into the allegations. The community remains vigilant as investigations continue into the deceitful actions of the officer.
This incident has highlighted serious concerns over corruption and abuse of power within the police force, sparking demands for strict accountability and justice. The investigation into Ahmed’s misconduct is ongoing, with the community closely monitoring the case.
