Hope Springs: CM Assures Unwavering Commitment as Government Pursues Peace Talks
IMPHAL: On Thursday, August 1, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced that the state government is making significant strides toward initiating peace talks. Speaking at the state assembly, Singh emphasized the commitment to dialogue, highlighting various meetings held in Silchar, Assam.
CM Biren Singh stated, “We are making immense efforts towards peace talks with the assistance of MLAs and other members. Meetings have been held in Silchar, and we will soon make an announcement.”
Although specific details about the participants in these discussions were not disclosed, the Chief Minister described the recent violence in the state as an “unexpected and unwanted turn of events.” He stressed that extreme measures like mass arrests could negatively impact the already tense situation.
Expressing concern over the politicization of certain issues, Singh urged, “There are elements which are politicizing certain issues that cannot be immediately handled now. I appeal to all not to engage in such activities.”
Responding to concerns raised by Manipur Congress MLA Ranjit Singh over the persistent violence despite the deployment of over 38,000 state forces, CM Singh revealed that an ongoing investigation is headed by a retired Supreme Court judge. The inquiry aims to identify gaps that contributed to the unrest, with accountability measures to follow based on its findings.
This initiative reflects a dedicated effort by the Manipur government to restore peace and maintain order, underlining the importance of measured responses and the avoidance of political manipulation in resolving conflicts.
Through these steps, the government hopes to achieve a peaceful and stable environment, ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents in Manipur. The forthcoming announcement is expected to provide further details on the progress and future steps of the peace talks.
