Heart-wrenching Injustice: Supreme Court Reveals Bibhav Kumar’s Assault on Swati Maliwal Despite Her Pleas
The Supreme Court issued a notice to Delhi Police on Thursday, August 1, regarding a bail plea from Bibhav Kumar, an aide to Aam Aadmi Party leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Kumar was arrested in May following allegations of assault made by AAP MP Swati Maliwal, reported NDTV. Maliwal accused Kumar of attacking her at Kejriwal’s residence. A hearing for the matter is scheduled for August 7.
Previously, both the Delhi High Court and a trial court denied bail to Kumar, who remains in judicial custody until July 16. Kumar faces charges including criminal intimidation, assault with intent to disrobe a woman, and attempted culpable homicide, as well as allegations of disappearing evidence and providing false information.
During a brief hearing, the Supreme Court expressed skepticism about Kumar’s plea, despite noting that bail is commonly granted in severe cases, saying, “We normally grant bail… we grant bail to murderers and killers.” The court highlighted the FIR where Maliwal was described as crying during the alleged assault, indicating the gravity of the situation. The bench was unconvinced by the arguments presented on behalf of Kumar, citing concerns he might influence witnesses if released. PTI reported the court’s remark, “He (Kumar) assaulted her even after she told about her physical condition,” and added, “He (Kumar) acted like some goon had entered the official residence of the CM.”
