Furious Backlash: Gaurav Gogoi Slams BJP’s Caste Census Remarks, Demands Justice for Marginalized Communities

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi voiced strong opposition to what he termed “insensitive and cruel remarks” made by BJP leaders during the budget discussion on the caste census. Emphasizing the significance of the caste census, particularly for India’s Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC), Gogoi condemned the BJP for mocking these communities’ demands.

“Yesterday’s discussion on the caste census witnessed a shocking display of insensitivity from BJP leaders,” stated Gogoi. He highlighted that the SC, ST, and OBC communities’ appeals for a caste census were ridiculed, causing humiliation within Parliament. “It is deeply unfortunate that, later in the evening, the Prime Minister not only shared but also praised the speech that insulted Dalits, OBCs, and Adivasis,” Gogoi added, stressing the gravity of the issue.

Gogoi further asserted that the Congress party’s protest is a crucial fight for the rights of marginalized communities, underscoring the importance of the caste census. “We are here fighting for their right, fighting for the caste census, and that is why we protested,” he reiterated, demonstrating the Congress party’s commitment to ensuring respect and recognition for these communities within the legislative framework.
