Delhi Rains Chaos: 10 Flights Diverted in 30 Minutes – Urgent Advisory from IndiGo, SpiceJet, Air India
Heavy Rains Cause Flight Diversions and Flooding in Delhi
Heavy rainfall in Delhi on Wednesday evening led to the diversion of at least 10 flights between 7:30 PM and 8:00 PM, according to Delhi Airport officials. Adverse weather conditions prompted several airlines, including Air India, Vistara, IndiGo, and SpiceJet, to issue advisories to passengers about potential disruptions.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported around 7 PM that clouds had converged over the city "from all four sectors," predicting rain for the subsequent two hours. Both SpiceJet and IndiGo advised passengers to monitor their flight statuses closely on July 31, citing expected heavy rainfall throughout the night.
IndiGo emphasized the weather situation with a unique advisory, stating, "The rain gods have decided to shower #Delhi with their blessings tonight," and encouraged passengers to check their flight statuses. Similarly, Air India advised passengers to start early for the airport due to possible slow traffic and waterlogging.
The heavy downpour also exacerbated flooding issues in several parts of Delhi. Notably, Old Rajinder Nagar, where three students recently died in a flooded coaching center basement, experienced significant waterlogging again. Videos surfaced on social media showing people wading through knee-deep water, reviving haunting memories of the previous flooding incident.
As a precaution, passengers traveling to and from Delhi were advised to stay updated on their flight statuses and plan for possible delays due to the challenging weather conditions. The advisories issued by the airlines aim to ensure passenger safety and minimize inconvenience during the adverse weather spell.
For further updates, passengers are encouraged to keep checking the official websites and social media channels of their respective airlines.
