Triumphant Comeback: SpaceX Overcomes Setback with Spectacular Starlink Launch
SpaceX successfully launched 23 Starlink broadband satellites early on Saturday, July 27, from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The mission utilized a Falcon 9 rocket, which lifted off at 1:45 a.m. EDT (0545 GMT), marking SpaceX’s first launch since a July 11 mission faced an upper-stage failure causing the loss of 20 Starlink satellites.
The Falcon 9’s first stage executed a flawless return to Earth, landing vertically on the Just Read the Instructions drone ship in the Atlantic Ocean about eight minutes after liftoff. This marked the 17th launch and landing for this specific booster, and it has participated in 13 Starlink missions before this.
While the rocket’s upper stage continued to haul the 23 Starlink satellites into low Earth orbit, SpaceX confirmed their successful deployment 63 minutes post-launch via their social media platform, X.
The earlier failure on July 11 was due to a liquid oxygen leak that hindered a crucial orbit-raising burn. An investigation identified a crack in a pressure sensor line within the liquid-oxygen system as the probable cause of the leak.
