Urgent Appeal: Missing Assam Music Maestro Ramen Baruah Last Spotted by Brahmaputra – CP Diganta Barah’s Concern Grows
Renowned Assamese music director Ramen Baruah has been reported missing, prompting an extensive investigation by the Guwahati Police. Commissioner Diganta Barah shared critical updates on Wednesday, July 24, revealing findings from the initial investigation into Baruah’s sudden disappearance.
Baruah was last observed near the banks of the Brahmaputra River, close to the Gauhati High Court, around 10:09 am on Monday, July 22. Commissioner Barah noted that Baruah left his residence voluntarily and was last seen at the riverbank. The inquiry uncovered that Baruah was dealing with significant personal and familial issues, potentially affecting his emotional state when he went missing.
Commissioner Barah stated, “There is no indication of external involvement in this incident. Baruah was troubled by personal and family matters, and it is believed he was experiencing restlessness and emotional distress. We have no evidence that he left the riverbank after arriving, leading us to speculate that he might have fallen into the water.”
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been mobilized for thorough search operations in the Brahmaputra River, operating on the hypothesis that Baruah may have fallen into the water. His mobile phone was found to be switched off at 10:09 pm that same day, heightening concerns.
The investigation also included Baruah’s daughter, with family-related dissatisfaction considered a potential cause of his disappearance.
On Tuesday, prominent Assamese singer Zubeen Garg joined Latasil police officers in the search efforts. The search spanned several key locations, including Lachit Ghat, Kamakhya Temple, Shukreshwar Devalaya, Bhootnath Temple, and Uzan Bazar Ghat, but Baruah’s whereabouts remain unknown.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma voiced his concern and instructed Commissioner Barah to deploy all available resources to locate the missing music director.
