Shocking Turn of Events: Delhi Court Summons YouTuber Dhruv Rathee in Explosive Defamation Case
A Delhi court has summoned popular YouTuber Dhruv Rathee in relation to a defamation suit filed by BJP Mumbai spokesperson Suresh Karamshi Nakhua. The lawsuit, initiated by Nakhua, centers around Rathee’s YouTube video titled “My Reply to Godi Youtubers | Elvish Yadav,” in which Nakhua is allegedly labeled part of “violent and abusive trolls.”
Nakhua is demanding Rs 20 lakhs in damages, claiming defamation and severe harm to his reputation. The summons, issued by District Judge Gunjan Gupta of Saket Courts, also lists Google LLC and X Corp as defendants. The court has scheduled the next hearing for August 6, 2024.
The court order directed, “Issue summons of the suit and notice of the application u/o 39 Rule 1 and 2 CPC to the defendants, subject to steps by all modes i.e. PF & RC/Speed Post/Approved Courier including electronic mode for 06.08.2024.”
Nakhua argues that Rathee’s video falsely claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had hosted “violent and abusive trolls like Ankit Jain, Suresh Nakhua, and Tajinder Bagga” at his official residence. The video has amassed over 24 million views and 2.3 million likes, amplifying its impact.
According to the suit, Rathee’s remarks have led to “widespread condemnation and ridicule” of Nakhua, inflicting irreparable damage to his personal and professional life. The complaint further accuses Rathee of habitual defamation, issuing online threats, and damaging the careers of fellow YouTubers by leveraging his extensive audience of over 23.3 million subscribers on YouTube and 2.6 million followers on the X platform.
Nakhua seeks a judicial order to prevent Rathee from posting any content about him on YouTube or X Corp. Advocates Raghav Awasthi and Mukesh Sharma are representing Nakhua in the case.
The unfolding legal battle highlights the significant ramifications of digital content and online reputations in today’s highly connected world.
