Outrage as Tripura’s Leader of Opposition Slams Union Budget: A Corporate Windfall Ignoring Common Citizens
Tripura Opposition Leader Criticizes Union Budget as Pro-Corporate
Tripura’s Leader of Opposition, Jitendra Chaudhury, has criticized the Union Budget, labeling it as pro-corporate. Chaudhury, who is also a CPIM MLA, asserted that the budget primarily aims to benefit corporations, without addressing crucial issues like job creation and public sector employment.
Although Chaudhury admitted he hadn’t examined the budget in detail, he referenced media reports and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s speeches to substantiate his claims. He highlighted that the budget lacks substantial changes from previous years and fails to propose effective solutions for the current job crisis and diminishing job opportunities across vital sectors.
Emphasizing the budget’s focus on supporting the private sector, Chaudhury pointed out that it lacks provisions for public sector job creation but includes subsidies for jobs created by private entities. He expressed concern over the growing inequality in rural areas, citing the budget’s inadequate allocation for schemes like MNREGA, essential for job provision and food security.
Chaudhury also criticized the budget for insufficient increases in funding for agriculture, food subsidies, and support for underprivileged communities, including Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Scheduled Castes (SC). He concluded by denouncing the budget as anti-poor and anti-people, accusing it of masquerading under the guise of ‘Viksit Bharat’ while primarily serving corporate interests.
This sentiment echoes concerns among various opposition leaders regarding the budget’s alignment with corporate benefits over public welfare and job creation needs.
