Captain Brijesh Thapa’s Mortal Remains Arrive in Bagdogra

Bagdogra: The mortal remains of Army Captain Brijesh Thapa, who was martyred in action while combating terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir, were solemnly brought to the 158 Army Base Hospital in Bagdogra on Wednesday afternoon. Arriving at approximately 2:30 PM, the remains were received with profound respect and honor.
A wreath-laying ceremony was conducted, where Captain Thapa’s family and numerous dignitaries, amidst the resonant chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” paid their heartfelt tributes. Present at the ceremony were Captain Thapa’s father Bhuwanesh Thapa, a retired Army colonel, mother Nilima Thapa, and sister Nikita Thapa, along with other grieving family members. Colonel Thapa, saluting his son’s coffin, expressed immense pride and said, “I am proud of my son for his sacrifices to the nation.” Overwhelmed with grief yet dignified, Nilima Thapa remarked, “I feel proud of my son but never imagined we would meet this way.”
Several notable officials were also in attendance, including Army representatives, Darjeeling District Magistrate Dr. Preetin Goyal, Darjeeling SP Abhisekh Roy, Darjeeling Lok Sabha MP Raju Bista, Rajya Sabha MP Shanta Chhetri, and GTA chairman Anit Thapa. Post-ceremony, Captain Thapa’s remains were kept in the morgue of the 158 Army Base Hospital overnight. They are scheduled to be transported to his native village in Darjeeling on Thursday for the final rites.
Sikkim Chief Minister P.S. Golay honored Captain Thapa’s bravery and dedication, stating, “Captain Brijesh Thapa has joined the legion of immortal Indians who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends in this hour of grief. May the departed soul rest in eternal peace.”
Captain Brijesh Thapa’s valor and sacrifice have etched his name among the nation’s immortal heroes.
