Discover Your Next IT Hub: Nara Lokesh’s Enthusiastic Invitation to Andhra Amid Karnataka Quota Dispute
In a strategic move to attract Information Technology firms, Andhra Pradesh minister and TDP leader Nara Lokesh has extended an invitation to companies to relocate to Visakhapatnam. This comes in response to Karnataka’s controversial decision to mandate a 100% reservation for locals in select private sector jobs, a provision that was swiftly put on hold after backlash.
Through a social media post on platform ‘X’, Lokesh highlighted Andhra Pradesh’s readiness to welcome businesses with “suitable skilled talent and no governmental restrictions.” Addressing members of NASSCOM, the TDP MLA emphasized the region’s offerings, including top-notch facilities, uninterrupted power, and robust infrastructure.
“Dear NASSCOM members, we understand your disappointment. We welcome you to expand or relocate your businesses to our IT, IT services, AI, and data center cluster at Vizag,” wrote Lokesh. He assured firms that Andhra Pradesh offers the most suitable skilled talent without any government restrictions.
This invitation followed NASSCOM’s objections to Karnataka’s bill mandating 100% employment reservation for locals in certain job categories, fearing it would stifle industry growth and job creation. The bill received significant criticism, prompting Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to retract an earlier endorsement.
Prominent figures like former Infosys CFO TV Mohandas Pai openly criticized the bill, calling it “regressive, unconstitutional, and discriminatory under Article 19.” Pai highlighted that a similar attempt by the Haryana government was previously struck down by the High Court. He also questioned the stringent definition of ‘local,’ suggesting it could deny opportunities to long-term residents who don’t meet specific criteria.
