ED Attaches Assets Worth Rs 7.56 Crore in CMJ University Degree Fraud Case
SHILLONG, July 17: The Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Guwahati Zonal Office, has provisionally attached assets valued at Rs 7.56 crore under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, linked to a scandal involving fake degree certificates issued by CMJ University, Shillong. The action targets Chandra Mohan Jha, his family, and associates. According to an official press release, the seized assets include bank balances, fixed deposits, insurance policies, and real estate. The investigation, based on a FIR and charge sheet by CID Meghalaya, revealed illegal issuance of about 20,570 degrees. Proceeds from these counterfeit degrees, totaling Rs 83.52 crore, were funneled through multiple accounts and investments.
Dorbar Shnong Nongkhyriem Celebrates 75 Years

SHILLONG, July 17: The Shillong Chapter of SPICMACAY has kicked off the Sanskriti Yatra, aiming to introduce every child in Meghalaya to Indian Classical Dance, Music, Folk Arts, and Cultural Heritage. Launched in collaboration with Governor Phagu Chauhan at Army Public School, Shillong, the event saw over 600 attendees. Renowned Sattriya Dance Artist Usha Rani Baishya and Padma Shri awardee Silbi Passah performed. The initiative will reach 50 government schools across Meghalaya, enriching students with India’s diverse cultural heritage.
Activist Files Complaint Against PIO Over Misleading RTI Reply
TURA, July 17: Flaming B Marak, a social activist from West Garo Hills, has lodged a complaint against the Public Information Officer (PIO) of Meghalaya Mission Organic, Horticulture Department for allegedly providing false and misleading information and withholding correct details in response to his RTI application. Marak has urged the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) in Shillong to impose penalties and recommend disciplinary action against the PIO.
