Urgent Advisory: IndiGo Warns Travelers as Mumbai Flights Hit Hard by Torrential Rain
Heavy Rains Disrupt Mumbai’s Air Traffic: IndiGo Issues Advisory
IndiGo Airlines has alerted passengers traveling to and from Mumbai about possible flight delays and cancellations due to severe rains causing air traffic congestion. In a post on X, the airline advised travelers to frequently check their flight status and wished them safe travels.
The situation, reported by the Hindustan Times, has already impacted a significant number of passengers, with IndiGo—previously noted for its punctuality—experiencing a notable decline in on-time performance due to delayed departures.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted continuous heavy rainfall in Mumbai until Saturday, issuing an orange alert for the city. Early morning rains have exacerbated traffic congestion and waterlogging. As of July 12, intense rainfall has been recorded in isolated areas of Mumbai, with Colaba receiving 86 mm and Santa Cruz 115.8 mm of rainfall within 24 hours.
Additionally, the IMD has extended the orange alert to Madhya Maharashtra and the Konkan region. Earlier in the week, Mumbai faced severe rainfall leading to significant waterlogging and flooding in suburban railway stations, with 170 mm of rain recorded in just three hours.
Due to the adverse weather conditions, schools and colleges have been closed, and the legislative assembly session has been adjourned. With moderate to heavy rains forecasted to persist until July 15, the Shinde government’s disaster management control room is actively overseeing the management of civic services.
As the weather continues to pose challenges, passengers are urged to stay informed about their travel schedules and exercise caution. The situation continues to develop, and further updates from the IMD and local authorities are expected to inform the public on the evolving conditions.
