Empowering Change: Join the Transformative Cleanliness Drive at Amma Mandapam for a Brighter Tomorrow
Despite Tiruchi Corporation’s consistent clean-up efforts, discarded clothes and ritual items continue to accumulate on the banks of the Cauvery River at Amma Mandapam in Srirangam. Recently, the corporation launched a special drive to address this ongoing issue. Amma Mandapam, a significant site for Hindus performing obsequies, attracts around 500 devotees daily, leading to a continuous build-up of waste. This accumulation poses considerable health risks to the public. Despite routine cleaning, the problem persists due to the indiscriminate disposal of items by visitors.
In this renewed attempt, corporation workers were dispatched to cleanse the river and its banks, removing heaps of discarded clothes and abandoned puja items. The collected waste was systematically segregated and disposed of. Emphasizing sustained cleanliness, a senior corporation official stated, “Regular cleanup drives will be a focus. Awareness campaigns will be conducted to sensitize devotees to the problem.”
Previously, volunteers including students, conservancy workers, corporation officials, the public, and organizations focused on waterbody conservation have actively participated in cleaning the riverbanks. The collective effort aims not only to maintain cleanliness but also to foster community awareness and responsibility towards preserving this sacred site.
