The oath-taking ceremonies for the newly elected members of various Municipal and Town Councils across Nagaland were conducted on July 5. Key events unfolded in Dimapur and Kohima, alongside other towns including Aghunato, Atoizu, Chümoukedima, Medziphema, Mokokchung, Peren, Wokha, and Zunheboto.
In Kohima, Deputy Commissioner Kumar Ramnikant administered the oath to 19 new councillors of the Kohima Municipal Council at the Capital Convention Centre. The ceremony was attended by Ministers and other dignitaries. Minister Salhoutuonuo Kruse acknowledged the historic nature of the event, especially the 33% reservation for women, and emphasized the responsibilities the councillors have towards their wards.
Similarly, DC Dimapur Dr. Tinojongshi Chang officiated the oath ceremony for 23 Dimapur Municipal Council members. Hukheto Yepthomi was elected as the Chairperson, pledging to address sanitation and drainage issues. Advisor for Labour, Employment and Skill Development, Moatoshi Longkumer, and other officials attended the ceremony.
Other significant oath ceremonies included those in Chümoukedima and Medziphema, administered by DC Abhinav Shivam. Lhousito Khro and Abei Thepa were elected Chairpersons for Chümoukedima and Medziphema Town Councils, respectively. Meanwhile, Wokha’s Acting Deputy Commissioner, K. Furhesie Nyuwi, oversaw the oath ceremony for 15 new members, electing Khozamo Lotha as Chairperson.
In Peren, Deputy Commissioner Vineet Kumar administered the oath to newly elected members of Peren, Jalukie, and Tening Town Councils. Mireulung Sephe was elected as Chairperson for Peren Town Council, while Hadi and Lungchui were chosen for Jalukie and Tening respectively.
Deputy Commissioner Rahul Bhanudas Mali conducted the ceremony for Zunheboto, with the newly elected members from Zunheboto, Atoizu, Satakha, and Aghunato taking their oaths.
These ceremonies mark a significant step in Nagaland’s urban development, with the elected officials poised to address local issues and enhance community welfare.
