Urgent Crackdown: Tripura CM Demands Resolute Action to Stop Illegal Cross-Border Infiltration Now!
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has issued a directive to the Border Security Force (BSF) and state police officials to take stringent measures against individuals aiding illegal cross-border activities. The instruction came during a high-level meeting on Thursday, where Saha voiced serious concerns about the recent surge in infiltration incidents at the Indo-Bangladesh border.
In a statement to India Today NE, BSF sources revealed that the Chief Minister convened the meeting to address the escalating infiltration of Bangladeshi nationals into Indian territory. The gathering included Chief Secretary J K Sinha, Additional Director General of Law and Order Anurag, DIG BSF S K Sinha, and other key officials.
During the discussion, Chief Minister Saha stressed the urgency of taking immediate action against those facilitating illegal entry and providing shelter to infiltrators. “The Chief Minister directed officials to take appropriate action against culprits involved in facilitating illegal border crossing,” a BSF source reported.
The meeting also underscored the challenges posed by current manpower constraints, exacerbated by the deployment of BSF personnel for the general parliamentary election and in Manipur. DIG BSF S K Sinha highlighted these issues and indicated that efforts were underway to mitigate them. “The BSF is in the process of installing electronic surveillance gadgets at vulnerable border patches. Concerted efforts with all agencies will certainly be fruitful,” he stated. Other key issues were also discussed during the meeting, including the identification and action against touts involved in these activities.
Following the meeting, Chief Minister Saha took to social media to update the public on the measures being implemented. “Had a meeting with the BSF and other security agencies to review human trafficking, smuggling, and other border-related crimes. Directed them to take effective steps to stop all illegal activities on the Indo-Bangladesh border. All necessary assistance will be provided by the State Government,” he wrote.
The state administration appears committed to intensifying efforts to curb illegal cross-border activities and improve border security.
