Kharlukhi Urgently Calls for Thorough Investigation into Shocking MPSC Irregularities
MP Offers to Resign from Rajya Sabha if Wife Found Guilty
By Our Reporter
SHILLONG, Sep 26: NPP Lok Sabha member Wanwei Roy Kharlukhi has asserted he will resign from the Rajya Sabha if an independent inquiry substantiates any irregularities involving his wife, Corina Lyngdoh, a Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) member. Kharlukhi’s statement is a direct response to allegations made by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) against the MPSC.
In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday, Kharlukhi requested an independent judicial inquiry into alleged irregularities in the ongoing Meghalaya Civil Services (Preliminary) examinations. This request follows a petition by the KSU to Governor Chandrashekhar H Vijayashankar, demanding a probe against MPSC officials.
Kharlukhi emphasized the need for transparency, stating, “I would like to draw your kind attention to recent news about irregularities in the Meghalaya Public Service Commission. Mrs. Corina Lyngdoh, my wife, is a member of the Commission, and this has tarnished my family’s image. Therefore, I request the government to initiate an independent inquiry.”
The MP requested that the inquiry be completed within one month, adding, “If the judicial inquiry finds my wife guilty, I will step down as the Rajya Sabha MP.” He highlighted that the MPSC must adhere to the Supreme Court’s ruling, which allocates 87.5% weightage to the written test and 12.5% to the oral test.
Kharlukhi rejected allegations of nepotism, asserting that deserving candidates, including top graduates from institutions like IIT Kharagpur and individuals from rural areas, have succeeded under his wife’s tenure. He also noted that his wife is set to retire from the commission next month.
The KSU’s petition to the Governor underscores persistent allegations of corruption and nepotism within the MPSC, urging a probe to uphold the Commission’s integrity and ensure fair recruitment practices. The union criticized the lack of accountability and timely action against wrongdoers, pointing out delays in result declarations and deviations from recruitment rules.
The situation remains tense, with the MPSC yet to issue any official response to these serious allegations.
