Empowering Kashmiri Pandits: Historic Voting Rights Restored Across 24 Polling Stations in J&K Assembly Elections
Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections: Over 15,500 Displaced Kashmiri Pandits Eligible to Vote in Second Phase
In an important phase of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, more than 15,500 displaced Kashmiri Pandit voters from various parts of India are set to exercise their right to vote. This segment involves 24 specially designated polling stations in central Kashmir’s Srinagar, Budgam, and Ganderbal districts.
According to Akashvani’s correspondent, the second phase of the elections will witness participation from over 25.69 lakh voters who will have the opportunity to determine the political fate of notable leaders such as former chief minister Omar Abdullah, Congress Pradesh chief Tariq Hamid Qarra, BJP president Ravinder Raina, Apni Party leader Syed Altaf Bukhari, and ministers Ali Mohammad Sagar and Abdul Rahim Rather. Intriguingly, four Kashmiri Pandit candidates are also vying for positions in this phase.
The Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner, Arvind Karwani, who oversees the election process, confirmed that over 14,700 voters are registered in Jammu to vote at 19 polling stations. Additionally, over 600 displaced voters from Delhi will cast their ballots at four polling stations, while more than 350 will vote at one polling station in Udhampur district.
This arrangement underscores the commitment to ensuring the participation of displaced communities in the democratic process. The detailed measures taken for their convenience reflect the administration’s dedication to an inclusive and representative election.
The success of this voting process will significantly impact the political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring that the voices of over 15,000 displaced Kashmiri Pandits are heard.
