Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Petition Committee Convenes in Garo Hills for the First Time
Tura, Sep 13: The Petition Committee of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, chaired by Pongseng R. Marak, held its inaugural meeting today at the Multi-Purpose Cooperative Hall in Mendipathar, Resubelpara. Bajengdoba MLA Pongseng R. Marak was joined by committee members including Remington Momin, Rambrai Jyrngam MLA, Dr. Mizanur Rehman Kazi, Rajabala MLA, and Sengchim Sangma, Chokpot MLA. The assembly discussed several public welfare issues with local Nokmas, Sordars, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and NGOs.
Chairman Marak emphasized the committee’s role in enhancing citizen participation in governance by encouraging the public to submit petitions about their grievances. He assured that the committee would address these issues promptly.
Notably, this meeting marked the first-ever convening of the Petition Committee in the Garo Hills region. The committee members conveyed their mission and urged local citizens to collaborate for more effective and responsive governance.
This significant step aims to foster closer cooperation and communication between the government and the public, ensuring that genuine grievances are heard and resolved.
