Alarming Alleged Rs 14.55 Cr Tripura Tender Scam: IAS Officer Booked
An FIR was filed on July 3, 2026, at the New Capital Complex Police Station in Agartala after a Nagpur-based firm accused an IAS officer and three others of running a multi-crore fraud involving allegedly fake government tender contracts in Tripura. The complaint, lodged on July 1, names IAS officer Abhishek Chandra and three others-Utpal Chandra, Sudip Pal and Krishna Chakraborty-saying they conspired to induce the firm into agreements by promising access to supply contracts under the Directorate of Higher Education, Tripura.
According to the complaint, the firm entered a joint venture agreement in September 2024 to participate in the purported supply contracts after the accused represented themselves as having influence over tender approvals and government procurement processes. Between September 2024 and February 2025, the firm claims it paid about ₹14.55 crore in multiple instalments as earnest money and related payments, believing the deals were legitimate.
The complainant says the accused used supporting documents, work orders and digital communications to create an appearance of authenticity. The firm further alleges that certain payments were later returned and described as refunds or profit-sharing, which initially reinforced the firm’s trust in the arrangement.
During a verification process in April 2025, the Nagpur firm discovered that no such tenders had been issued by the concerned department and that the documents provided were allegedly fabricated. After this discovery the complainant says the accused stopped responding to calls and messages and that key individuals involved in handling payments became unreachable.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including charges of cheating, forgery, criminal breach of trust and criminal conspiracy. Authorities say the investigation is at an early stage and that the allegations are being verified.
If the allegations are substantiated, the case raises concerns about attempts to exploit procurement processes tied to the Directorate of Higher Education and the potential misuse of official influence. The police have not publicly released further details on investigative steps or any arrests.
