NEET-UG Re-exam: Pradhan Urges 22 Lakh Candidates to ‘Sit Fearlessly’
Nearly 22 lakh (about 2.2 million) candidates are scheduled to sit the NEET‑UG re‑examination on June 21, 2026, with the National Testing Agency (NTA) and state authorities conducting the test amid heightened scrutiny following earlier controversies. The revised exam window runs from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM — 15 minutes longer than the previous schedule — as officials seek a smooth, secure process for the crucial medical entrance test.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan expressed confidence in the system and urged students to remain calm. “NEET‑UG re‑examination is going to take place today. I have complete faith in the NTA, all the state governments, the district administrations, the Indian education sector, and especially in India’s students. Sit fearlessly, without worry, and you will definitely do well,” he said, offering his best wishes to test‑takers.
Pradhan also appealed to the public to refrain from acts that could distress or destabilize students ahead of the exam. Speaking as “a parent, as a social worker,” he asked people not to jeopardize “the future of India’s new generation” or do anything that could harm children’s mental health, and urged responsible citizens and leaders to avoid actions with ulterior motives.
Separately, Pradhan said remaining Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) results would be released shortly. He noted that results for roughly 15,50,000 out of 17,00,000 students have already been published and that work on re‑evaluation, re‑assessment and re‑verification applications is nearly complete, adding: “We will not allow any disruption to the children. We assure you of this today.”
The re‑examination comes after allegations of irregularities and paper leaks earlier this year. Authorities say extensive measures are in place to prevent malpractice. Maharashtra has tightened security, with special vigilance reported in Nagpur, Ahilyanagar and Latur; state administrations, police and education officials say they are coordinating to ensure the exam is conducted in a secure, transparent and malpractice‑free environment.
