Urgent Review: JP Nadda Checks Dengue & Malaria Readiness for Monsoon
Ahead of the monsoon season, Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda today chaired a high-level review meeting with senior ministry officials to assess national preparedness for dengue and malaria, underlining the need for heightened vigilance and rapid response as rainfall begins. The minister reviewed the current disease situation nationwide and urged sustained attention to prevent and control mosquito-borne infections.
Nadda stressed preventive measures as the first line of defence, calling for intensified vector control actions such as source reduction (removing stagnant water where mosquitoes breed), elimination of breeding sites, targeted fogging and other public-health interventions in vulnerable areas. He asked authorities to prioritise communities at higher risk and to scale up local control operations before transmission peaks.
The meeting emphasised the importance of timely surveillance: prompt case reporting, active monitoring and robust rapid-response mechanisms to contain outbreaks early. Officials were directed to strengthen data flows between local, state and central levels so responses can be launched quickly where clusters appear.
The minister also underscored strict adherence to standard treatment guidelines and clinical management protocols for both dengue and malaria. He called for coordinated action across the Central Government, states and union territories, local administrations and healthcare institutions to minimise the disease burden and ensure a unified response to emerging public-health challenges.
Nadda instructed hospitals and health facilities nationwide to remain fully prepared, ensuring adequate stocks of medicines and diagnostics, availability of blood components and hospital beds, and deployment of trained healthcare personnel. These measures aim to reduce morbidity and deliver timely care during the high-risk monsoon period.
