Breaking: U.S. Reads MoU with Iran — Trump, Pezeshkian May Sign
Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney said on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, that a U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding to end the Middle East war could be a “game changer” for the region and beyond, speaking on the third day of a G7 leaders’ meeting in Evian, France. He described the agreement as having “a likelihood that this memorandum of understanding agreement could be a game changer,” telling reporters the development could shift regional dynamics if implemented.
Carney pointed to encouraging summit discussions that included U.S. President Donald Trump and covered both Ukraine and Lebanon. The Canadian premier said he had observed a noticeable U.S. “change in tone with respect to Ukraine” as Kyiv seeks to end more than four years of conflict following Russia’s invasion.
He said that change in tone included what he called “a more realistic — in our view — expectation of where this war was going to go,” along with a firmer stance against Russia, tighter sanctions and an increased ability to provide additional defensive support for Ukraine. Those measures, he suggested, reflect a recalibration of Western policy in response to the conflict’s evolving realities.
Carney added that G7 leaders — representing Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Britain and the United States — had also held “a very detailed discussion about Lebanon.” — AFP
