Global Praise: PM Modi Becomes India’s Longest-Serving Prime Minister
Kathmandu, June 10 — Several world leaders on Wednesday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he became India’s longest-serving elected prime minister, a milestone reached when he surpassed Jawaharlal Nehru’s record with 4,399 days in office. Leaders praised his leadership, economic reforms and the sustained trust placed in him by the Indian electorate.
Rastriya Swatantra Party president Rabi Lamichhane of Nepal took to X to call the milestone a “remarkable feat,” recalling a recent meeting in Delhi and saying his party remained committed to advancing Nepal–India relations. “We look forward to pursuing issues of mutual interest — focusing on economic cooperation and shared growth — in the true spirit of those dialogues,” Lamichhane added.
Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, conveying congratulations on behalf of the King, government and people of Bhutan, described the milestone as an opportunity to recognise not just the length of Modi’s tenure but its impact. In a letter to the prime minister he wrote that few democratic leaders have the chance to shape their nations over such an extended period while continuously earning the trust and confidence of their people.
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung praised Modi’s role in guiding India’s economic and developmental progress and said the achievement demonstrated the trust of the Indian people in his leadership. “Over a long period of time, you have led India’s growth and development and played an important role in elevating India’s stature in the international community,” Lee posted on X.
European Council President Antonio Costa said relations between the EU and India were “stronger than ever” under Modi’s leadership and cited a historic summit earlier this year as evidence of deepening ties. Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh expressed readiness to strengthen the Mongolia–India strategic partnership and deepen bilateral friendship.
Israeli Ambassador to India Reuven Azar congratulated Modi, noting the prime minister’s economic reforms and comparing his tenure to that of Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu. Kenyan President William Ruto praised Modi’s rise from humble beginnings as a testament to “dedication, perseverance, and public service.” Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali lauded Modi for policies that, he said, lifted millions from poverty, rolled out digital public infrastructure at scale and drove rapid infrastructure growth, adding that Modi has been a sustained voice for the Global South. Fijian Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka also conveyed his appreciation and admiration.
The congratulatory messages were reported by IANS.
