Must-see: Siri AI Official — iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS & visionOS 27
At its Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple unveiled Siri AI, a major overhaul of the company’s virtual assistant that the company describes as the “next generation of Apple Intelligence.” Apple says Siri AI combines on‑device models with server-based “Private Cloud Compute,” will remember past chats, and will appear across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and visionOS — with tighter integrations on iOS 27’s Dynamic Island and Spotlight on iPadOS 27 and macOS 27.
Apple says the new assistant is built on Google’s Gemini models and is designed to be more conversational while protecting user privacy: on‑device processing is used where possible, and Apple claims private data is not stored or made accessible to the company when server resources are used. Conversations will sync across devices through iCloud and a dedicated Siri app will retain chat history.
The on‑device Siri AI, limited to supported hardware, promises “even more expressive voices” and improved systemwide dictation that handles punctuation, capitalization and formatting automatically. Voice expressiveness and speaking pace will be customizable. Siri AI can draw on personal context — messages, emails, photos and other local data — and Apple says that contextual understanding will extend to third‑party apps when developers integrate with Spotlight.
Siri AI adds Visual Intelligence features on iPadOS and macOS for the first time, letting users ask questions about on‑screen content, search visually and take immediate actions. iOS gains a Camera mode that can identify objects, offer nutritional insights about a plate, and even split bills using Apple Cash. On macOS, a keyboard shortcut will let users select screen content and type queries directly to Siri.
Writing Tools are built into the system so Siri AI can draft, refine and proofread text anywhere you type, and in Mail and Messages it will mimic the user’s usual tone and punctuation for different recipients. Siri AI will also be able to generate and edit images; Apple says image features will have daily limits, with higher caps for iCloud+ subscribers.
Apple plans a beta release “later this year” for supported devices set to English, with more languages to follow. In the European Union, Apple says Siri AI will initially be limited to macOS, watchOS and visionOS where language support exists; it will not be available on iOS and iPadOS in the EU because of issues with the Digital Markets Act. Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering, said: “Our hope is to eventually bring Siri AI to the EU, and we will continue to engage with EU regulators on a path forward. However, their refusal to engage constructively on solutions that preserve privacy and security means we do not currently have a timeline for Siri AI’s availability on iOS and iPadOS in the EU.” Apple argues the DMA’s interpretation would force it to give competing assistants direct access to private data and control of apps without essential protections.
