Mandaviya’s Bold MY Bharat Plan: Every District, Every Block — Shillong
Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya on May 30 urged wider youth participation in nation-building and announced plans to extend the MY Bharat initiative to every district, block and young citizen across the country. Speaking on the first day of a two-day Chintan Shivir at the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong, he described MY Bharat as a growing mass movement and set out targets to deepen grassroots outreach.
Mandaviya said MY Bharat now counts over 2.17 crore (about 21.7 million) youth volunteers and called for stronger local engagement to ensure last‑mile connectivity and broader involvement in development programmes. Officials from the Department of Youth Affairs, MY Bharat and the National Service Scheme (NSS) attended the deliberations to map ways to strengthen youth engagement and improve programme delivery.
The minister highlighted the central role of District Youth Officers and NSS officers, stressing that the success of youth programmes must be measured by tangible outcomes and their impact on communities. He urged practical metrics and closer monitoring to ensure initiatives translate into measurable community benefits.
Mandaviya also called for large‑scale participation in a nationwide anti‑drug campaign scheduled from June 26 to August 15, and announced programmes in 150 educational institutions to mark 150 years of Vande Mataram. He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to set up MY Bharat Centres in all 783 districts to anchor local activities and coordination.
Earlier in the day, the minister joined MY Bharat volunteers on a rhododendron trek in Shillong, encouraging young people to adopt active lifestyles, engage with nature and contribute to environmental conservation. The event, staged amid Meghalaya’s scenic landscapes, aimed to promote fitness, adventure and environmental awareness while strengthening ties between youth volunteers and government initiatives.
The government frames the expanded MY Bharat push as a youth‑led approach to development, aiming to convert volunteer energy into measurable community progress across the country.
