Meghalaya Starts Phase-III Voter Roll Revision: 1,021 Stations
Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district has launched preparations for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls for 2026, briefing political parties on timelines, verification procedures and the role of booth-level agents ahead of the exercise. Officials said house-to-house verification by booth-level officers will run from June 30 to July 29, 2026; the draft electoral roll will be published on August 5, 2026; claims and objections can be filed until September 4, 2026; and the final roll will be released on October 7, 2026.
The district, which has 17 Assembly constituencies and 1,021 polling stations, is a key part of the state’s Phase-III revision process. Authorities said the 2005 electoral roll will be used as the “legacy roll” — a reference list prescribed under Election Commission guidelines to help verify names and addresses during the revision.
A central focus of the SIR will be field verification. Electoral registration officers will oversee scrutiny and implementation across constituencies while booth-level officers conduct door-to-door checks to confirm voter details. Political parties have been directed to appoint booth-level agents for every polling station to observe verification and the handling of claims and objections, ensuring transparency.
The district administration will seek help from Dorbar Shnongs — local community councils — to raise awareness about upcoming house visits and hearings for voter list corrections. Officials emphasised that timely public participation and co-operation with verification teams are essential to maintain accurate and inclusive electoral rolls ahead of future elections.
