Manipur NH-2 Blockade Enters Day 4: 300+ Vehicles Stranded in Senapati
More than 300 vehicles — including trucks, passenger buses and wingers — remained stranded for the fourth consecutive day along National Highway‑2 in Manipur’s Senapati district after an indefinite shutdown called by the Kuki Inpi Manipur on May 13. The blockade has halted traffic between Khongnem and T Khullen, leaving the highway corridor at a standstill as of May 16.
The disruption has left hundreds of passengers, drivers and transport workers without reliable access to food, drinking water or sanitation. Several travellers, including women, children and elderly people, were reported to be facing severe hardship as essential supplies ran low.
Drivers and transport operators said the prolonged stoppage created mounting uncertainty, with many unable to move either forward or backward along the route. More than 300 vehicles remain immobilised in the affected stretch, according to those on site.
National Highway‑2 is a key lifeline for Manipur, linking the state with neighbouring regions and supporting the movement of goods, fuel and other essentials. Authorities and transporters have warned that a continued shutdown could lead to shortages and wider disruption of supply chains if traffic is not restored promptly.
Transporters and stranded commuters have appealed to state and central authorities for immediate intervention to reopen the highway and to provide emergency relief. Officials have not yet announced any breakthrough or given a timeline for reopening the route.
