Heroic Foil: Assam Rifles Brave Cross-Border Smuggling in Manipur’s Moreh
The Assam Rifles successfully intercepted and thwarted a significant cross-border smuggling operation along the international border in Manipur’s Moreh. During the operation, security personnel recovered a variety of contraband items, including one sack containing miscellaneous clothing, two sacks of Burmese Areca Nuts weighing 60 kg each, 380 packets of mosquito repellent, 96 cans of energy drink, 40 packets of noodles, a total of 120 kg of areca nuts valued at Rs 54,000, and 71 bottles of liquor—all tied to a Kenbo Bike.
Acting on specific intelligence, the Assam Rifles launched this targeted operation, effectively disrupting the smuggling activities at various points along the Indo-Myanmar Border (IMB) from September 1-2, 2024. The confiscated goods are a testament to the efficiency and vigilance of the Assam Rifles in curbing illicit trafficking in the region. An investigation into the incident is currently ongoing, with more details expected to emerge.
This operation comes in the wake of another significant seizure last month when the Assam Rifles confiscated 1,20,000 Yaba tablets, valued at a staggering Rs 19.2 crore, in Agartala’s Salbagan. During this earlier operation, security forces also arrested an individual and seized a Bolero vehicle.
The relentless efforts by the Assam Rifles underscore their commitment to securing the border and preventing the influx of illegal materials into the country. Further updates on the current investigation are anticipated as authorities continue to probe the matter.
