Teacher Who Sent SOS Found Alive Inside City Bank After 3-Day Mystery

Staff at the State Bank of India branch near Polo Grounds in Shillong found 27-year-old Guwahati teacher Bhabana Sarma in a distressed state on Saturday, April 25, ending a multi-day search after she had sent a frantic message to her family saying she was in danger. Sarma, who recently resigned from a private school in Guwahati, was discovered by bank employees when they arrived for work; police say her condition is stable and Guwahati officers have reached Shillong to escort her home.

According to the report, Sarma left her residence earlier, telling family she intended to collect pending dues from her former school. Investigators say she initially booked an Uber, which was later cancelled, and then used a Rapido service toward Paltan Bazar. Later the same day she allegedly sent a message to relatives claiming she was in danger while travelling between Tetelia and Azara. Her mobile phone was last traced near Gauhati University before it became unreachable.

The recovery has raised serious security questions about how Sarma managed to enter and remain inside the bank premises without detection. Shillong police are cooperating with their Guwahati counterparts to reconstruct her movements and to determine the circumstances of her transit from Assam to Meghalaya. Sarma’s family is en route to Shillong to assist with the inquiry.

Police officials have not released details about any suspects or motives, and no formal charges have been reported so far. Authorities are examining CCTV and transport records and interviewing witnesses as part of an ongoing investigation.

The published account includes inconsistent timeline details: it reports Sarma was recovered on April 25 and also states the search began on April 24 while describing the recovery as occurring “three days after” she sent an SOS. Those statements cannot all be accurate as presented, and investigators or official sources have yet to clarify the precise sequence of events.
