Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) on Friday assured residents of Assam and Manipur that there is no shortage of cooking gas (LPG) or petrol and diesel in the two northeastern states, saying it holds sufficient fuel stocks to meet demand without interruption. The company issued the reassurance amid concerns over possible supply disruptions and rising international crude price volatility.
Senior IOCL officials from the Northeast region told reporters that all bottling plants and fuel depots in the states are operating normally and that distribution networks remain intact. They urged people not to panic-buy fuel or LPG and said there has been no interruption in the supply chain.
The reassurance came after recent global instability in crude oil markets and reports of supply-chain problems sparked anxiety. In the past few days, rumours on social media and in certain circles about an impending fuel shortage prompted unusual crowds at petrol pumps and gas agencies in some areas.
Authorities noted that false reports in the past have created artificial shortages and disrupted everyday life, and therefore state administrators have taken precautionary measures. They appealed to the public to ignore baseless rumours and rely on official communications for accurate information.
IOCL and local officials said they will continue to monitor supplies closely and maintain regular distribution to ensure consumers’ needs are met. Residents were reminded that calm and responsible buying will help prevent unnecessary disruption in fuel availability.
