Kashish Methwani: From Glitz to Glory-24-Year-Old Model Chooses Indian Army Over Harvard’s Elite Offer
Kashish Methwani is redefining the norms of success by trading a glamorous modeling career for a prestigious commission in the Indian Army. The 2023 Miss International India titleholder has taken a bold step into military service, turning her back on lucrative modeling opportunities to serve her country. With no familial military background, Methwani’s journey underscores her belief that passion and dedication can help anyone reach new heights.
Methwani’s inspiration to join the armed forces stems from her transformative experience with the National Cadet Corps (NCC) during her college years. An award-winning cadet, she was honored as the All India Best Cadet by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a moment that solidified her purpose. “I always loved exploring new things. Pageantry was a passion, but I never saw it as a career,” she shared. “That experience convinced me that the Army was where I truly fit in.”
Born on January 9, 2002, in Ulhasnagar near Mumbai, Methwani grew up in a Sindhi family. Her father worked as a scientist with the Directorate General of Quality Assurance, while her mother taught at an Army public school. Methwani pursued a master’s degree in biotechnology at Savitribai Phule Pune University, completing her thesis at the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru. She even received an offer for a PhD from Harvard University, showcasing her academic prowess.
Proving her mettle, Methwani achieved All India Rank 2 in the Combined Defence Services (CDS) exam, which led to her commission as a Lieutenant in the Army Air Defence Regiment. She officially joined the Army on September 6, 2022, after completing 11 months of rigorous training at the Officers’ Training Academy in Chennai.
While her accolades in modeling might have opened many doors, Methwani feels a deeper connection with the military. “I had several offers from modeling and acting agencies after winning my dream beauty pageant,” she said. “But I decided the Army is where I belong. For me, it’s about taking one step at a time, giving my best to my unit and to the Army.”
Reflecting on her journey, she emphasizes that the NCC provided her with crucial insights into her true calling. “I have always explored all dimensions of myself, but it was the NCC that showed me the life I truly wanted,” she noted.
Beyond her military commitment, Methwani is a polymath with diverse talents; she is a Bharatanatyam dancer, tabla player, quiz enthusiast, debater, and an accomplished sportsperson. Her multifaceted abilities, combined with her dedication to defense duties, exemplify a modern representation of what it means to serve the nation.
